The Clooney kids are here! On Tuesday, June 6, George and Amal Clooney became parents to twins Ella and Alexander.
“This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives. Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine,” a rep for the actor said in a press release, joking: “George is sedated and should recover in a few days.”
Longtime bachelor Clooney wed the former Amal Alamuddin in 2014, though children never seemed a certainty and the actor alluded in the past he may never have kids.
“I think it’s the most responsible thing you can do, to have kids. It’s not something to be taken lightly. I don’t have that gene that people have to replicate. But everything in my life has changed over time,” he told People in 2006.
Clooney apparently felt that change after marrying Amal, and now, at 56, he’s a dad to not one, but two children.
“I didn’t know that we’d have kids. I was very happy that we were going to get married and then [a pregnancy] seemed like the next step,” he told Marc Malkin of E! News in March.
He also joked with Malkin about how his previous work as TV doctor will prepare him for juggling twins.”I played a pediatrician on ER, so I know how to work on extra children… If there’s any accidents I’m there. I’m the guy,” Clooney said.
George’s partner in the tequila company Casamigos, Rande Gerber, had some fun in a congratulatory Instagram post, sharing a video of himself hauling diapers and tequila with the caption: “Special delivery #HouseofFriends.”
Should the couple need babysitters, they can reach out to Gerber and his wife Cindy Crawford or celebrity parents such as Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts, whom they call friends.
“We are really happy and really excited. It’s going to be an adventure,” Clooney told Laurent Weil of the French program Rencontres de Cinema in February. “We’ve sort of embraced it all with arms wide open.”
